Because You’re the Only One – Part 1
“Heechul sshi, can you please re-read this document?”
“Heechul sshi, a client wants to meet you.”
“Heechul sshi, Yunho sshi called you.”
Heechul rubbed his forehead. Good god, he was dizzy. He just finished one work, then he called for another. What did the good for nothing CEO do at this kind of time??
“Just... put all the documents on my table, and I will check it. As for the client, tell him to wait for five minutes, I will be there soon. Yunho... send my message to him, ‘fuck off. I’m busy.’ He told his secretary, who widened her eyes in shock at the last statement. “But sir, how can I tell that to a CEO...?”
“I asked you to deliver my message. Just say it like that. He will understand. Now, go. Hurry.” He shooed his secretary away. He glanced at his wrist watch. Seven thirty... visiting hour will be over soon. Sighing, he picked his cellphone and dialed a number.
“Hello... Siwon sshi? Yeah, it’s Heechul. Mm... I will be late today, so can you inform the nurse for me? He said, voice sounded so tired. “Yes... yes, thank you, Siwon sshi.” He ended the call and tossed the phone away. He was lucky, that the owner of the hospital were his parents, and the doctor in charge knew him well. Or else, he had to post-poned the visit until tomorrow. Or maybe next week, with the job he ahd to do.
“Fuck... since when my life become like this...?” He murmurred, bitterly.
Kim Heechul. A 27 years single man who worked as Jung Yunho’s right hand. He too, was one of the heir of Kim hospital, alongside with his brother, Taemin. But he took no interest of it, and chose to become a businessman instead. As a genius he was, he climbed into a high position in just a few years after he joined Jung enterprises. The old CEO was impressed by his straight-forward yet thoughtful way of business.
He too, was known because of his beautiful face. Flawless face, cat-like eyes that shone brightly and mischiveously, pointy nose... perfect. Many said if he was a girl, lots of boy would fall on their knees and proposed to her. Heechul just snorted if he heard it.
A few of his friends, and family, knew one secret of him. He was gay. And he was not ashamed of it.
But, oddly, he had no lover. Or maybe he had one, but hid it from public. Either way, even if he had one, he only told about it to his family. Or maybe Yunho, but the younger boy never heard of it. The only thing he knew was just lots of girls confessed to his hyung, but got rejected in a not so nice way. That was why they accused Heechul as arrogant and cocky. But they didn’t know anything about Heechul. Not a bit. Not even the deep secret he kept for two years already.
A few years ago, Heechul met an actor, Hankyung. He was born in China, but moved to Korea and built up his career in that country. Heechul met him accidentally when he came to the bar alone. This man suddenly came up to him, and said, “You looked lonely... and me too. Want to drink together?” Heechul snorted. “You have guts, stranger, but no. I’d like to drink alone.”
“But it will be fun to drink together, don’t you think?” Hankyung shook the soju bottle in his hand. “Besides, it will be such a pity for a gorgeous man like you to be alone in this beautiful night.” Heechul rolled his eyes. “Such wonderful words... what are you? A writer?”
“No, an actor. So... how about my offer?” Heechul looked at the smiling male in front of him, and laughed. “You’re interesting. Take a seat, and let’s talk about sappy and silly things.” Hankyung pulled a chair. “So... what’s your name?” Hankyung asked.
“Really? After that witty pick up line, we have to go trough this awkward intoduction now?”
“Name is important in a first meeting. Or if you want to have a one night stand, name won’t be that important then.” Heechul glared at him. “But from your look, I think one night stand won’t cross your mind, so... want to tell me your name?”
“You... have a weird accent.” Heechul pointed out, and Hankyung chuckled. “I’m not Korean. I’m Chinese. Your name, please... or would you like to know mine first? I’m Han Geng. You can call me Hankyung.”
“...I’m Kim Heechul. So... China? What made you come here?” Heechul sipped his soju. He had to admit, the guy in front of him right now was gorgeous. Especially his smile. It would make everyone’s heart melted. Including Heechul.
“I always want to be an actor in foreign country. This year, I get the chance. My agency told me to go to Korea, and learned the language. I got accepted in an audition today, so I thought of celebrating.” He shook the soju bottle in his hand again. Heechul chuckled. “Alone?” Hankyung smirked.
“Supposed to be with my manager, but his daugher is sick, so yeah. I’m alone.” He took a sip.”You?” He asked Heechul, and the older male played with the bottle’s mouth. “Like what I said to you, I love drinking alone...” He answered, voice sultry as the alcohol started to kick in. “Because I can be at peace for one or two hours.”
“Yeah... that’s kinda true...” Hankyung said. “Anyway, looks like you get a company tonight, so... let go of the peace?” He smiled again, and Heechul could feel his heart almost jumped out because of it. He blamed the soju for its weird effect. He never felt anything like that before.
“Shut up and just drink, Chinese boy.”
They spent the rest of the night drinking, and exchanging witty comments about their life. That night, Heechul found another best friend.
The next time they met was still at the same bar. Apparently, after the first meeting, they exchanged numbers, and contacted each other a few times. They met again when Hankyung messaged Heechul suddenly. ‘Let’s drink again tonight. It’s my first day shooting, and everything went well. I’m paying.’ Without much thinking, Heechul typed a yes, and grabbed his coat.
“You know,” Hankyung said after his third bottle. “You’re beautiful.” Heechul choked because of that sudden statement. “...What?” He asked, voice kinda squeaky.
“I said, you’re beautiful.” Heechul snorted. “You’re stating the obvious. What made you suddenly say that, huh? Trying to seduce me?” He said. To much to his surprise, Hankyung just smiled. “Yes... is that working?”
Heechul pursed his lips. “...No. To seduce me, you need more than just flattery. I’m not that easy.” He said, and made the younger male giggled furiously. “Then how about I try another way to seduce you?” Heechul raised an eyebrow. This boy sure had a weird behaviour when he was drunk, he thought.
“What way?” He asked, almost a murmur. Hankyung smiled, and leaned forward to him. Heechul’s vision was extremely blurry, and it took him a few econds before realized that Hankyung already claimed his lips. He tensed, and was about to push Hankyung when the younger boy kissed him deeper. He felt like his energy floated up. “Ha-Hankyung...” he moaned in-between the kiss.
“Yeah...?” Hankyung whispered, earned ablush from the other male. “Your seducing method is working... stop kissing me, please.” He said, but Hankyung didn’t pull away. Instead, he leaned closer. “But, Heechul... you seen to like it...” he said. Heechul glanced at the empty bottles in front of Hankyung and cursed. The Chinese guy was absolutely drunk, and would forget all about this in the morning.
“You’re drunk, Hankyung.” He stated calmly. Hankyung frowned. “No, I’m not. My vision is clear, so I’m not drunk.” He answered confidently. “What if I say I like you, Heechul?”
“You’re drunk... you will absolutely forget about this tomorrow morning. Where is your handphone? I will call your manager to pick you up...” Heechul stilled again when Hankyung kissed his lips. Tenderly, softly, and how Heechul wanted to belike that forever. Unconciously, he gripped the side of Hankyung’s jacket, and fluttered his eyes close...
“If I remember what happen tonight...” Hankyung said when they pulled away. “Will you be my boyfriend?” Heechul looked at Hankyung’s eyes, and noted the sincerity in them. He brought his hand to Hankyung’s cheek, and whispered...
When he woke up the next morning, he got a message from Hankyung. Short, sweet, and he laughed because of a tinge of happiness in his heart.
‘Morning. I love you. –Hankyung-‘
Heechul sighed. Three years ago he was happy, contented. His parents liked Hankyung very much, and since they already knew Heechul was gay from the very beginning, they had no problem with the relationship. Everytime Hankyung had no gig, they went to certain places for a date. The place they usually visited was the bar where they met for the first time.
The bautiful male glanced at the clock, and stood up. It was not too late, and his works were done already. He grabbed his bag, waved goodbye to his secretary, and practically ran to the parking lot. Luckily he drove his car today, because Yunho tend to left him these days. The younger boy was busy attracting a certain barista at his cousin’s cafe, and Heechul felt like it would be rude to pester him. Although he didn’t mind to be rude.
He fished out his cellphone out from his pocket, and dialed Siwon’s number once again. “Siwon sshi... I’m already on my way there.” He said shortly, and ended the call. After got into the car and turned it on, he drove away.
Heechul was humming happily, rummaged his cupboard to searched for his best shirt. He would go with Hankyung for a date that night, after almost two weeks only calling. Hankyung was busy shooting his new drama, and Heechul was busy helping Yunho.Thay boy already became the new CEO, and it was his job as the right hand man of the old CEO to help him.
He picked up a sky blue tie, that matched perfectly with his white shirt. After sprayed some cologne and double checked his appearance on the mirror, he grabbed his car key. “Omma, appa, I’m going!!” He shouted when he walked pass the living room.
“Going on a date, hyung?” Taemin asked him when he put on his shoes. Heechul nodded, and smiled happily. “Yeah... bye, kid. Don’t sleep too late.” He ruffled Taemin’s hair before opened the door. The younger brother smiled, haven’t seen his brother that happy all this time.
“Take care, hyung.”
Heechul arrived at the bar first. The bartender greeted him happily, already recognized him from afar. “Good night, Heechul sshi. Long time no see.” Heechul smirked at him. “Yeah... I’ve been busy these days. Hankyungie hasn’t come yet?” The bartender shook his head. Heechul pouted.
“Okay then... give me the usual.” Heechul ordered. Bloody Mary, his favourite drink. When the bartender turned away to make his drink, Heechul dialed Hankyung’s number. The Chinese guy didn’t pick up.
“Geez... that bastard... just see, I will scold him for being late.” He grumbled. When his Bloody Mary came, he sipped it little by little, glanced to the door everytime it jingled open.
One hour... two hours... Hankyung still didn’t come. Heechul was gulping his fifth glass of Bloody Mary, while murmurred things like “break up” and “kill”, when his phone vibrated.
“Yah!! Where are you?? Do you know you’re la-“
“Kim Heechul sshi?” A woman’s voice was heard from the other line. Suddenly, Heechul felt like his heart dropped into the pit of his stomach. He had a bad feeling. “Kim Heechul sshi...?” The woman spoke again.
“Ye-yeah?” He stammered. He could hear lots of noises from the other line. Beeping sounds, people murmurs... his blurry mind became clear because of the noises.
The woman sighed. “Kim Heechul sshi... I know this is sudden, but I beg you to listen to this carefully and calmly, okay?” Heechul nodded, eventhough he knew the woman couldn’t see him. “You’re the first speed dial in Hankyung sshi’s phone, so I thought you’re a special person for him... and inform this to you first.” Heechul clutched his shirt tightly, hoped it would calm his fast heartbeats.
“Hankyung sshi got into an accident.”
Heechul felt his breath stopped. His vision was getting darker and darker, as the woman kept talking. “Apparently the other driver was drunk, and sped up a little bit. His car hit Hankyung’s sshi because he drove trough the red light. We bring Hankyung sshi to Kim hospital right now. Kim Heechul sshi? Are you listening...?”
Heechul wasted no time. He ran out the bar, ignored the bartender’s call. He didn’t even bother riding his car, as he ran and ran to the hospital. He knew well the way, because it was his family’s hospital. He never ran that fast before, and he didn’t care. All that he thought about was Hankyung, and hoped his lover would be alright.
When he arrived into the hospital, his parents were standing in front of the main door, looked at him worriedly. “Heechul ah...” they said.
“Omma... appa... Hankyung... where is Hankyung?” He breathed out, and his parents looked away. That time, he knew, that Hankyung was not alright. His body dropped on the floor. “Heechul ah!” His mother called, worriedly.
“No... tell me this is a lie... tell me, omma. Tell me I’m still on my bed, sleeping, and tomorrow I will go on a date with Hankyung and was too worried until I get this nightmare... please, omma, please...” He begged, and his mom’s eyes wet with tears. “Your appa... and all the doctors here, will try anything to keep him alive. You have to stay strong, Heechul ah...” she said. Heechul looked up to his dad, who nodded and smiled assuringly. The man crouched down to him.
“I will save Hankyung sshi... believe in me, okay?” He said. Heechul nodded slowly, and held his dad’s hand. “Appa...” he whispered. “Please... save him. I love him so much, appa...” Mr. Kim caressed his son’s hand. “I will...”
Fortunately, Hankyung was alive. He survived, much to Heechul’s relieve. But the damage to his brain was quite fatale, and he was coma for two whole years.
Heechul shed his tears at the memory. For two years also, he waited for Hankyung. Visited him every night, talked to him, eventhough he never got any reply. He hoped, every second, for Hankyung to wake up soon and kiss him again.
The only people knew about Hankyung and Heechul was just his family, and his cousin, Jungsu. The accident was reported in TV, because Hankyung already had the fame that time. He got a large fanbase, in Korea and China. His accident pained a lot of people’s hearts, especially his fans. They almost lost a talented actor.
But the pain they felt was not as big as Heechul’s. The tears they shed was not as much as Heechul’s.
And the love they had for the actor, was not the love like Heechul’s.
